Water is the element associated with Cancer, and, alongside Scorpio and Pisces, it forms the water trigon. The water trigon is one of four elemental trigons in the zodiac, with the other three being fire, earth, and air. When a trigon is influential, it is said to affect changes on earth.Cancer is said to be the house of Neptune and the exaltation of Jupiter, both astronomical bodies over those born under Cancer. Its ruling planet is the Moon.
In Hindu astrology the sign of Cancer is named Karka and its Lord is Moon. Divine associations with Cancer in Renaissance astrology are Luna/Diana, both goddesses that represent the Moon, Cancer's ruling planet.
"Cancer" is an ancient word of Indo-European origin, derived from a root meaning "to scratch." In ancient Egypt, the sign of Cancer was conceived as a scarab beetle, while in Mesopotamia it was represented by a turtle. In each case, the animal representative of the sign was perceived as "pushing" the sun across the heavens, initiating the summer solstice.
In modern times, it is the scientific Latin genus name for "crab", though it has been used to describe numerous species of shellfish in classical usage. According to Greek myth, the symbol of Cancer—often a crab, though sometimes a lobster—is based on the Karkinos (Greek: "Cancer"), a crab crushed under the foot of Hercules, and whose remains were placed in the sky by Hera, forming the Cancer constellation. In Roman variations of the story, it is Juno—Hera's counterpart in Roman mythology—who places the crab in the sky. Naturalist Richard Hinckley Allen, in 1899, deemed Cancer the "most inconspicuous figure in the zodiac," adding that its mythology "apologizes for its being there by the that when the Crab was crushed by Hercules, for pinching his toes during a contest with the Hydra in the Marsh of Lerna, Juno exalted it to the sky."
Originating from the Cancer constellation
The zodiac sign of Cancer originates from the cancer constellation. The cancer constellation lies in the Northern Hemisphere with a right ascension of about 9 hours and a north declination of 20°. The cancer constellation is known for "the Beehive Cluster" which is a swarm of over 1,000 stars. The word cancer means "crab" in Latin. When you look up at the sky to find the constellation, you will only see an upside down "Y", however, it is said to symbolize a crab, hence the name. In astrology, the symbol for the zodiac sign Cancer, is also a crab.
In the arts
During the Middle Ages, the zodiacal symbol of Cancer was included in devotional books and incorporated into monumental sculptures. The depiction of Cancer as a crab is most prevalent in Mediterranean and Western European art.
In Dante Alighieri's Paradiso, he makes reference to Cancer, writing:
Thereafterward a light among them brightened,
So that, if Cancer one such crystal had,
Winter would have a month of one sole day
— Dante Alighieri, Paradiso[
Cancer is figured in Giovanni Maria Falconetto's 1517 painting, Cancer, as the guardian of the city of Verona. The Cancer symbol is also depicted in Agostino di Duccio's sculpture View of Rimini Under the Sign of Cancer (1450).In Giorgio Vasari's fresco, the Chamber of Fortune, Cancer is represented in the northern compartment of the ceiling, pictured by Diana, holding the moon, along with a crab.

The General Feel
Tons of pressure that the last year brought onto your back is about to be released, and although the process might be rough on the heart, it is necessary and brings your energy back over time. Year 2021 is all about debt, shadows and tails from the past that once made you happy but no longer serve a purpose. You are about to find numerous things obsolete and emotional ties that have no solid foundation will break loose. The important thing in the following months is not to take new loans or form debts for your future unless they are necessary to make a drastic change in your life.
The time has come to put yourself first and way on top of your priority list. With your current list of habits and the pressure of expectations that you tried to meet by now, this will be a difficult task, but one worth of all the effort. Start with the little things so you don’t let stress and chaos take over. You need to stay organized and in touch with usual daily matters that require constant attention, while choosing not to procrastinate or remain stuck until the breaking point. There is a lot you can do for you from where you are standing right now.
The Greatest Challenges
The end of May brings a lunar eclipse into your sixth house, the house of hard work, and your routine will need a lot of attention. Keep in mind that this is only a peak of an iceberg and shows the atmosphere of a couple of months prior and after the event. Self-care is of the essence, as well as a healthy approach to your vitamin intake and regular daily exercise. The physiology speaks to you in unusual ways and if you start seeking resolutions and finish lines that your heart is not ready for, it could be under too much stress and make you vulnerable. Slow down and act within the emotional need of the moment. You have time for everything that you wish to achieve.
The Greatest Rewards
You have a chance to take your energy back, rise, lift your own spirits as you embrace anger and the reality of the passive position that got you into some stagnant waters. This year is the field of strange and surprising opportunities that could sweep you off your feet, steal you away from the rut that you got into, and push you over the line. Thinking outside the box will be valued and extremely helpful in situations that are usually static and unmovable. You are free to step out of your comfort zone and protect your personal boundaries along the way.
Physiology and Body
The end of April and the entire month of May are critical for your physiology. Where personal freedom is taken, numerous psychosomatic issues will come to surface, and problems with blood pressure and kidneys are possible. Check your overall state but realize that you have the power to change the states that are triggered by emotional imbalance and the way you shove negative emotions aside. It is time to be constructive and focused on heath and your actual physical needs. Not only does this require a lot of information and daily effort, but it also speaks of your need to connect with your inner voices, desires, and the truest Self you carry within.
Love and Family
Your usual commitment to emotional matters and the situation in your home should not change much when it comes to intimate contacts and family members, even though romantic relationships tend to break and put a lot of weight on your state of heart. The first half of the year is not that favorable of easygoing love stories. Once the dust settles and you embrace changes that are necessary, you will find that the essence of what you need starts with redecorating or changing your home. This change sets up a new foundation for all emotional contacts you will make by the end of the year.
The month of June brings out of bounds Venus into your sign, making it impossible to not give your emotions freedom to be exactly what they are. This is a time when different and strange love stories could surprise you, those that possibly have little to do with reasonable and rational choices. Make sure your moral imperatives are in place and keep your situation clear and truthful to not get torn between your own opposing needs. Take a risk that your heart summons but keep your expectations low and see the purpose each contact serves for your own evolution and for your heart to cleanse.
Work and Finances
The most energy should be released into creative work as spring comes to its end, but it is possible that the frustration will grow instead. If you are in unsupportive surroundings where you cannot express your full potential and talents, search for better solutions elsewhere. It is better to try out several new things even if they don’t seem promising, than to stay stuck in a place that brings no promise of purpose or happiness. Pay attention to old debts and try not to take any new loans. It is better to save, repay, and only use what you possess than to put weight on your own future when your direction is unclear.
